Hamilton's The Vaudevillian Pack Tons of Energy and Spirit on New Album!

Hamilton/Kitchener group The Vaudevillian have a new lease on life thanks to their latest amazing album, Bringing Satan Down.  Not only is this their initial offering for Busted Flat Records - it's also the first as a trio.

The extra member hasn't dulled the edgy, pre-war Blues sound they're famous for.   As a matter of fact, their songs have more energy and spirit than before (which they weren't exactly lacking previously).  It's well-produced and recorded but still has and old-fashioned, raw vibe.

There are many ways to get your hands on this sweet album.  There's the Busted Flat Online ShopBandcamp and cdbaby.

Stan Rogers Chosen as 'Famous Hamiltonian of the Year'

Every George Hamilton Day (that's what the city of Hamilton calls its August Civic Holiday), a native son is chosen as the Famous Hamiltonian of the Year.  In 2016, the honour went to the late, legendary singer/songwriter, Stan Rogers.

To celebrate his life, the Hamilton Spectator held two sold out fundraising shows where many artists performed their favourite Stan Rogers tunes.  They were fitting tributes to the amazing legacy he left behind.

New EP from Waterdown's Gillian Nicola Will Envelop You with it's Warmth and Ambiance!

Upon listening to No Place to Call, the newest EP from Waterdown's Gillian NIcola, you'll be enveloped by the warmth and ambiance of the sound.  It's welcoming and will entice you to stay for a spell.

With a crisp, clear, beautiful voice she invites listeners to experience her emotional lyrics about the ups and downs of life.  A wonderful, atmospheric wall of sound shrouds each tune, giving it just the right amount of heft.

Gillian's chosen quite a wonderful team for herself. Guitars are ably handled by Dan Hosh and Ben Alexander. Then there's the incredible team of Andrew Ivens (keys and pedal steel), Bruce Scavuzzo (bass) and Timon Wientzek (drums).

You can find this exquisite EP on Bandcamp, cdbaby and iTunes.

Hamilton Sax Master Libby Ferrelli Passes

It is our sad duty to report the passing of local sax master Libby Ferrelli.  He played with the George Arnone Big Band, the Hamilton Italo-Canadian Band and others.  Our condolences to his family, friends and fans.

From the George Arnone Big Band Facebook page:

The George Arnone Big Band is absolutely devastated to report that our Lead Alto player, Mr. Libby Ferrelli, has passed away suddenly. He was performing with the Italo-Canadian band at an event in Brantford Ontario when he collapsed and passed away later in hospital. Libby was very passionate about our group and all the groups he is affiliated with and he will be very sorely missed by the music community in Hamilton. If you have our CD, you can hear him playing clarinet in Begin the Beguine, a tune we played very often, as it was "Libby's Number". Always available for advice and very supportive of anything the band was or is trying to accomplish, we will all miss his genuine smile, infectious laugh and his musical knowledge. His chair is going to be very difficult to fill and we will miss him terribly.

Dundas' Colour Film (aka Matthew de Zoete) Launches Wonderful, Cinematic EP

The EP, Super 8 is the debut recording under Dundas singer/songwriter Matthew de Zoete's new musical identity, Colour Film.  With this new name comes a wonderful, cinematic style of music.

Matthew has always been an amazing lyricist but he's outdone himself on the EP by consciously creating imagery for the listener to experience.  Each tune tells an interesting story set to incredible pop folk melodies and strong vocal harmonies.

Backing him up on this project is  Julie Fader (of EtiquetteGreat Lake Swimmers), Mark McIntyre and producer Les Cooper.

This outstanding EP can be purchased and/or downloaded through Bandcampcdbaby or iTunes.  It's also available at Dr Disc, Cheapies, Revolution Records and Records on Wheels.

Waterloo's JoJo Worthington Takes Her Music to New Heights on Latest Album!

Waterloo's JoJo Worthington takes a huge step forward with her latest album, // (aka Two Lines).  She takes her fabulous ukulele-based folk and brings it to incredible, atmospheric heights.

Moody and masterful, the recording is a stirring collection of sparse, melodic wonders.  Her voice emanates emotion and power - almost as if it's just a second away from the breaking point.  Creative, sometimes spiritual lyrics also enhance the ethereal feel of the project.

You can download the amazing album from Bandcampcdbabyemusic and iTunes.
